Pauls legacy

Whilst working in the care sector, it's easy to see many things that work really well, but you also see things that need to be improved and this was the case earlier this year. 

I was employed to care for a lovely man named Paul. Paul had Down's Syndrome and many other complex needs and his family had been informed that unfortunately he needed palliative care.

Paul had a vibrant personality and was very charismatic and although he had a loving, committed family to care for him and be his voice, it became obvious very quickly that he and his family had been terribly let down by the care sector throughout his life.

At the end of his life it was Paul's wish to be nursed at home. He was being cared for by dedicated support workers who wanted the best for him, but unfortunately palliative care is not part of a support workers training (nor unfortunately for a lot of carers). This is why I was recruited, as it was recognised that here was a real need for this specialist knowledge.

Sadly my time with Paul was too short but what was clear was the real lack of specialist care in the community for vulnerable adults at the end of their life. Therefore, I am determined to ensure that Paul's legacy will be Elite Specialist Care CIC. We can offer a specialist team of highly trained individuals to work with families and support other professionals in the persons life to ensure the person and their family are well supported in a holistic way. This will ensure that they are able to spend precious time together and make plans to ensure that at the end of their life they are cared for, comfortable and without pain in an environment that is homely and filled with love and compassion.

In memory of Paul, we will always provide the best quality care for everyone, no matter who they are or what they need. I will ensure that my staff are highly trained and experienced and support them to be the best  they can be. I will never settle for less.

Paul, this is for you. And for all of those that never had a voice. I will never forget you.
